Non-Fiction- True Genre- Realistic Fiction- believable fiction that is set in the present Fantasy- highly imaginative fiction that uses strange or unusual characters, setting and plot Myth- folktale that is considered sacred and that attempts to explain how things came to be Tall Tale- folktale that is usually humorous and usually assumed to be untrue Mystery- fiction that includes secrets or crimes to be solved Fable-Folktale that teaches a moral or lesson, often including animals as characters Historical Fiction- fiction that is set in the past Legend- folktale that is based on a real person or event Fairy Take- folktale that usually includes magical elements Science Fiction-fiction that deals with science or technology Autobiography- nonfiction that is a biography of a person written by himself or herself Biography-nonfiction that is informational Writing about real people First Person- narrator is a character in the story (uses words I, Me, We) Third Person- narrator is not a character/ outsider (uses words you, they, him, her) Author's Purpose Persuade- the author will want you to believe his/her position. Persuasive pieces are usually non-fiction. Although there are facts, it contains the author's opinions. Inform- the author will be telling you true facts about a topic Entertain- the author will be wanting you to enjoy the story and laugh |
